Aren’t The Holidays Interesting?

This year my holidays were pretty interesting. My wife got the idea to deliver full Thanksgiving dinners to 10 less fortunate familys at the Salvation Army. What an amazing experience! It felt so good to actually give and see others thankful. I mean some of these people were very poor. One little girl said “yeah, we have food” which brought a tear to my eye. Then Christmas came along and I realized that in the past all I did was want, and I watched others do the same. And my gift giving was usually not very thoughtful. And my gifts for others would often go unused and I would be offended. After delivering the dinners, I realized how fortunate I am and others are and how I don’t need anymore “stuff”. So I asked others not to get me anything which many of them are struggling with. This is Christmas! I must buy you something so you can use or eat that something.

But truthfully, my house has enough crap and I don’t need anything more. I feel so fortunate with how my life is going. Then I head out driving to run some errands. I don’t like to drive my wife’s Honda right now because it is Kill or Be Killed right now on the road here in Phoenix. It’s every man for himself. The Christmas Spirit is gone for some reason as soon as you hit the pavement. I feel a little more comfortable in my huge truck. People tend to cut me off and flip me off less. I like to drive the speed limit since I am in no hurry, but people these days speed like crazy and get pretty upset if you aren’t going 10-20mph over the speed limit. I don’t understand why people tend to race to their death. Drive slow, look out the window and enjoy the beauty of the world. Put the cellphone down, no, really, put the DANG PHONE DOWN YOU IDIOT!!! Whooops, did I get mad there. Better turn on the Christmas music. My buddy James listens exclusively to Xmas music right now to keep him calm while driving. It’s hard to get mad listening to Jingle Bells right? I found it works like a charm. So I am working hard to accept that people on the road right now are not out to get me. They are just stuck in their own little world, it’s not personal. And when I see their mouth spewing forth obsenities in my rear veiw mirror, it makes me laugh sometimes. I mean, come on, I am going the speed limit. Feel free to rear end my truck if it makes you think you’ll get there faster. I know my bumper will probably total your Kia. In case you didn’t know, my truck has a full roll cage and 5 point seat belts and is built, by me, for baja racing and rolling. :)

But yes, the Holidays have been very interesting this year. So remember, I do not want anything, just your love and respect and a hug. I’ll give you the same I promise. And if you must spend money, make a donation to our turkey dinner next year. We plan on providing 20-30 meals next Thanksgiving and will need at least $3,000.
