Altruism

When people are being altruistic, usually it is because they are compensating for some guilt they have. — Dr. John Demartini

Wow, what a powerful statement from Demartini. This mechanism seems to run many peoples lives. For instance, have you ever met a cat lover who saved every cat they came across? Look back into their past and early on they, or somebody else did something to a cat that made them feel they have to pay them back for what happened. My wife wanted to save the starving because she grew up that way and got out of that situation and now felt guilty for it.

Is being altruistic for something you feel guilty about, being true to yourself?
